March 3 – 18, 2018
We are excited to announce the first National Women’s History Month Festival that begins on March 3 and the festival will continue until the 18th – 5 unique and distinct events celebrating the artistry of women and the legacy of pioneering women.
MUSE, Cincinnati’s Choir now celebrating 35 years of Musical Excellence and Social Justice is partnering with AlivenArts, the newly created arts collaboration incubator founded by Rachel Kramer former Accompanist and Associate Director of MUSE. Says Kramer: “AlivenArts is here to make connections and provide the backdrop to celebrate music and the arts in a collaborative spirit – through participation, education and performance”.
The National Women’s History Month Celebration is bringing together women artists from all genres and using unique places and spaces. The Festival is designed with both “inreach and outreach” opportunities for people to come together celebrating the all embracing power of women.
The Festival kicks off Saturday, March 3 with "Filiae Mundi" - a High School Girls sing-in with guest conductors Robyn Lana, Lisa Peters and Dr. Catherine Roma. On Sunday, March 4, Dr. Brenda Portman will present an organ r recital of all women composers followed by a reception at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church. On Saturday, March 10 - St. Michael Street at Community Matters will close as we bring women artists in music, art and word together and will include two concerts by MUSE. On Saturday, March 18, Dr. Tammy Kernodle will give a lecture on women of the Civil Rights Movement at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House and on Sunday, March 18, the LUNAFEST Film Festival will be presented at Hebrew Union College followed by a closing reception and special performance by MUSE.
Says MUSE President Amy Arnold: “For 35 years MUSE has been a front-runner in giving voice to women – strength to women and celebrating the enduring spirit of women – never have we had the opportunity to celebrate Women’s History Month in Cincinnati to this extent. MUSE is thrilled to have this opportunity and we are looking forward to this celebration!”
